MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an advanced radiological scanning method that allows visualization of internal organs without harmful radiation. MRI uses radio waves and a strong magnetic field to create detailed images of the body’s internal structures.

What is MRI?

MRI is a radiological imaging method designed to visualize body tissues and organs based on their magnetic properties. Unlike other methods, MRI does not use radiological radiation, making the risk very low. The MRI device creates a strong magnetic field that causes tissues to resonate at various frequencies. These resonance signals are captured and converted into detailed images showing the structure, shape, and condition of tissues and organs.

Applications of MRI

MRI is used to diagnose and treat various health conditions:

Brain and Spinal Cord Issues: MRI helps identify brain tumors, bleeding, injuries, and inflammation.
Joint Inflammation: MRI effectively diagnoses joint inflammations, such as knee joint issues.
Cardiovascular Diseases: MRI is used to assess heart valve conditions, heart wall thickness, and heart rhythm.
Tumors and Cancer: MRI assists in diagnosing and monitoring tumors and cancer, such as prostate cancer.

How is an MRI Scan Performed?

An MRI scan is performed inside a special machine and typically takes between 20 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the area being examined and the required image detail. The patient is placed into the machine, where a magnetic field is created, and the scan is conducted. It is important for the patient to remain still, as movement can affect image clarity. If needed, the patient can communicate with the doctors through a microphone and report any discomfort.
